Northern Lights Dazzle Durham

Friday evening saw Durham treated to the best display of the Northern Lights in nearly two decades.

The Northern Lights – or aurora borealis – appear as bright, swirling curtains of lights in the night sky and range in colour from green to pink and scarlet. They became visible after one of the strongest geomagnetic storms for years hit Earth.

The aurora is expected to dazzle Durham, as well as the rest of the UK, again on Saturday night.
